Trips to the hair stylist can really add up. This 24-piece home haircutting kit from Wahl gives the whole family professional-looking haircuts for a fraction of the cost. The powerful clippers are useful for giving crew cuts and maintaining shorter haircuts. The clippers have a high-speed PowerDrive motor, which gives a smoother cut on thick hair. However, for the extent of its power, the motor is fairly quiet and lightweight. A comfortable grip makes the clippers easy to hold for a long period of time and a "Dura Chrome" finish gives them that retro-barber-shop look. The clippers' high-carbon steel blades are permanently aligned so you never need to adjust them, and are detachable for thorough cleaning. The clippers come with 10 adjustable guide combs and a sliding thumb-operated switch on the clippers lets you easily adjust the combs to the proper height. Besides the clippers and guide combs, other accessories in the kit include a barber comb; small flattop comb; pocket comb; barber scissors for trimming bangs or stray hairs; two hair clips; a cape; neck duster; instructional video; and a blade guard, a cleaning brush, and extra oil for the electric clippers. Let's see, today is August 26, 2010. I suppose by now it's about time that I leave a review for it, huh?
I originally started cutting my own hair when I learned to ride a motorcycle. Having a longer haircut did not work out so well with a helmet, so I began cutting it short. I use the #3 razor all around, then I touch up with the #2 in various places (mostly on the lower sides/back).
I've been doing this every couple weeks for years, cleaning the razor after every use, and oiling it on occasion. And to be quite frank, I oil/lubricate the blades much less often than the manufacturer recommends. But still six years later, the razor is working perfectly fine, does not overheat, and has in the meantime saved me a ton of money.
If you're hesitating on this item, don't bother. Just buy it. And review it in 2016. Have fun.

I've had one UK made clipper for almost 20 years. I replaced it every once in a while with solid, European-made substitutes, but somehow the old clipper would always outlive the new products. It's only with the new Wahl clipper that I can safely put my old one to rest, because after a few haircuts I can tell it's an excellent product that functions impeccably. One small concern I have is the plastic handle on the side for adjustment of the actual metal clippers on top, as this seems somewhat fragile, but otherwise, the shave is very close cut, very clean (no hairs left behind) and the kit has more pieces than I'll ever need. I'm sure you'll enjoy the product yourself.

I ordered this kit as a Christmas present for my sister's fiance. The item description said that it comes with a DVD. When it arrived, there was no DVD (the reason I only gave it four stars). This would have been helpful, as my sister had never cut hair before. They are impressed with how easy the clippers are to use. She cut his hair once not long after Christmas and is planning to do so again, tomorrow. Before their wedding, however, he will get his hair cut by a professional.
